Lots of activity going on in the community. Neighbors are out planting gardens, mowing, putting up fences and other things they have been thinking about doing all winter.
Just a reminder though, take time out of your work schedule to attend the Fish Fry at the Turner Community Building on May 9 at 4 pm. Menu will consist of Fish, Chicken and side dishes. Come out and enjoy the good food and the chance to visit with your neighbors.
This is a fundraiser for the community and proceeds will go to the upkeep of the Community Building.

From The Chairman's Desk
I would like to take this time to look back on some of the activities and happenings of 2008, but before I do that I would like to give a thank you to Richard Mirus for all the outstanding work he did and is doing for the community. Some of you may not know that Richard resigned from the Board in October. He assures us that when some of the projects that he is working on are completed he will serve again if needed. And we do need him! Richard has worked tirelessly for the community, and many of the improvements in the community are a direct result of his hard work. Richard, we miss you on the board.
Looking back on just some of the highlights from 2008. The Fund-raiser chili supper held on February 9 was a great success. We depend on these fundraisers to pay the maintenance on the building and encourage all to participate. In May, Richard Mirus reported the good news that the water board had received a grant for Locust Mountain, Friendly Lane, Pope Cemetery Rd and Revis Hill Rd to assist with water connections. A great time was had at the June Fund Raising Ice Cream Social. In October the Rock Creek Bridge was reopened after many months of hardship for residents in that area. The bridge was washed out in one of the torrential rainstorms that Mother Nature provided. We look forward to the start of paving on Rock Creek Road soon.
Of the many good events and fundraisers that took place in 2008, the top of the List goes to the HOMECOMNG EVENT. Thanks to all who planned and worked to make it the success that it was. Richard and Lawrence Mirus were the head all-nights cooks again this year and everyone enjoyed eating the fruits of their all night labor.
Looking Forward: We cannot know what the future of 2009 holds, only God knows that, but we know that like those who have gone before us, we can get through torrential rains which wash our bridges and roads out, hail storms that damage our roofs and anything else that comes our way with God’s help and if we work together, neighbor helping neighbor. We encourage everyone to attend the board meetings, which are the second Friday of each month at 6 pm. A potluck supper and an evening of playing dominoes follow this. If you don’t play dominoes bring your favorite game. COME ONE – COME ALL.

Well, the holidays are now upon us and as we all get ready for the new year coming up, you know... saying bye to 2008 and Hello 2009. I have something to say.
Folks, I wish to say to each and everyone it has been an honor and privilege to serve our neighbors in Turner Community. The new chairman is Fred Peters, so help him as y’all have helped and volunteered with me.

From the Chairman's Desk
Summer 2008
Well, we have survived the few hot days and we have been blessed with some good rains. The community keeps asking when the road will be paved and I along with all of y'all are "Waiting." I am hoping for 2008 and it will be done. Yes, I remember 2007, it was also promised and never happened. So, folks...we will wait and see what happens next.
If anyone seen a car on fire at the community fir station, just don't fret your mind none. You see, all of Fire District 3 was at the station and they were practicing for a possible car fire. These volunteer firefighters go thru the exercise so they will be trained. You know, in case you have a car fire or a house fire these guys and gals know what to do. We also have some trained First Responders at our fire station. Our hats are off to District 3 Firefighters and especially our fire fighters at our Turner Fire Station. I'll say thanks to you folks from all the people in this area.
The 2nd Friday of each month at 6:30 PM we now have our monthly board meeting and it is also family fun night. Playing train and eating and oh, some of the stories told, neighbors it is fun.
The expansions of Locke/Fern, Dollard Rd Water Users are ongoing for Revis Hill Road, Revis Hill Cutoff, pope Cemetery Road, Friendly Lane and Locust Mountain. People living on these roads will be notified shortly about right-of-ways.
Two more families are now living in the area, just makes it bigger and better.
It is Barbeque and Homecoming here at Turner. It is a time to come and relax and enjoy your neighbor's company and eat some fingers lickin good food prepared by the folds of Turner. The time of this September 6tthis starting at noon for visiting and for eating is at 4:00 PM. Folks, don't just come and eat and run, stay awhile and just visit. If the young at heart can stand it, me and brother will be cooking the meat all the night September 5th. Coffee will be ready and if you spend the night with us, breakfast will be served.
Has anyone seen so many dragon flies this year? They are just thick, wonder what sign that is? If y'all know, kindly inform this old hillbilly.

From the Chairman’s Desk
Well again a lot of things have been going on in our community. You folks remembered our neighbor Jim Young. Jim and I were trying to get rural water for this community. He spent a lot of time and money on this endeavor and finally got our water.
Saying that to say this, Thanks Jim for all your help. Jim passed away and a memorial service was held at the community building. From all of Jim’s friends we say, we’ll miss you.
Neighbors listen up, coming May 10, 2008 serving time 4:30 PM is the Pope Cemetery Fish Fry. Note: The Fish Fry will be held at Turner Community Building. If you want to sit under the shade trees and watch the cooking process and hear some tall tales just bring your lawn chairs and sit a spell, but if you want to stay cool come inside and sit a while in there.
Remember this is a Pope Cemetery fund raiser. I figure some politicians and wannabe’s will be at the fish fry, so come and hear what some of them have to say and you can question them if you want.
We have had a lot of rain, and I guess you call it a flood or floods. We may gripe about all this water but come July we’ll all be saying, “Sure wish it would rain.”
I visited with our County Judge Mr. John Hall down at Rock Creek on the County Line Rd, which County Line Rd is now the detour due to the engineers have closed the bridge on the pavement on Rock Creek Rd. The judge said the pavement project for our area is still an ongoing project. I still need a few people to sign easement papers.
Remember to try and come to the Community Building on the 2nd Friday of each month at 6:30 PM for family fun night. We eat and play games, Mexican Dominos and others. We also tell stories and let me tell you some are just a hoot.

From the Chairman’s Desk
Some folks in the community have asked about the progress of the County road department job on paving a portion of Rock Creek Rd. This was tentatively scheduled for the fall of 2007. Judge Hall called me to explain that there will be a delay and he states the project will get under way in the Spring of 2008. We know all of you are very anxious about the project and we will try to keep you informed.
The annual BBQ and homecoming was a great success with approximately 80 folks attending. Again Lawrence and yours truly cooked all night long with the cooking of brisket and chicken. The stories that were told were great, and some was just laugh out loud funny.
We now have in the entry way a place for pictures of people who lived or is living in the community. Come by and see what we have on the walls. We need 8X10 and 5X7 framed photos for the foyer.
Folks, we had a pie and regular auction for the community to help with utilities and insurance expenses. Thanks for all who participated.
The annual pie supper in November 2007 for the annual Christmas tree was done in a great style. A goodly amount of money was raised. The contest of the ugliest man created some controversy and after close counting Fred Peters came out the winner. His remark was that he did not mind accepting, knowing that he surely was not the ugliest man at the pie supper with Max Donnohue being there.
Linda Wilkinson was the lady who took care of the getting the goodies for the Christmas tree, and believe you me she did a bang up job on the contents that went into the sacks. Thanks Linda on such a great job. When you see Linda be sure and tell her how much you appreciate her endeavor.
The money from the quorum court will not be coming.
I’ve been nudged, so long.

From the Chairman's Desk
Well folks we’ve got plenty of rain this year and as of now it is raining here in September. We have 5 new families now living in our community, since the last newsletter came out. Remember go by and welcome these neighbors to the neighborhood, set and drink a cup of coffee just say "howdy."
The fair is this month at Mulberry and Ft. Smith. The kids from our area will be showing so go down to support our kids. We are very proud of the kids in 4-H and FFA and being able to walk by and see all the ribbons they will win just does your heart good.
The annual BBQ and Homecoming will be held again on September 22, 2007 starting at 2:00 P.M. and all you can eat of BBQ and fixings will start at 4:00 P.M. So come to the community building, eattin', sittin' and visitin' is the order of the day.
Lawrence, my older brother, and yours truly will be cooking the brisket and chicken the night of 21 of September at Turner. We’ll have the coffee pot on so come and spend the night with us as we cook the night away. We will get a midnight snack and a breakfast out of this world. So come and join us for a fun time of telling stories, and renew our acquaintances with our friends. Why even the quilting ladies are welcome to come and spend the night!
The Pope cemetery is now in the computer age. See Junior Brooks and Marilyn (Holt) Marshall as they have the computer print outs and the books for the burial plots.
We have a boy scout from Ft. Smith area that is going to put in a walking path at the community building for his Eagle Scout badge.
Also we are getting some money from the quorum court thru our JP Delia Friddle, depending on the amount received is how much improvement can be made. Delia, thanks for the assistance.
All of the upcoming events, especially the BBQ and Homecoming, please make plans to attend.
We will be having an auction/pie supper for the community building on October 20, 2007 starting at 5:00 P.M. The reason for this auction/pie supper is we operate on donations only and we pay the insurance ($750 annually) and the monthly electrical and water bill. So we need some monies for this and for upkeep of the building. Come bring pies and any thing else for the auction and we will see who gets the jar of pickles for the ugliest man, so many selections and so little time. Come join the fun. One thing wives, I’m sorry, we will not auction your husband.

From the Chairman’s Desk
I am amazed at the way different folks in our community are helping our neighbors. Having people in our community is what makes this area great.
One instance is that Kelly Deputy came around and tilled the neighbor’s gardens. Here’s to Kelly on being a good neighbor and incidentally he is also a volunteer fireman at our fire station. Thanks Kelly.
I’m wondering have you ever been loafing around in the area. Take your old vehicle and do some traveling in the byways of Crawford and surrounding counties and folks, you will see some areas which are awesome and some areas the nature will give you some scenes you will remember for a while. Just take a camera and sandwiches and drinks and spend the day, you’ll love it.
We have lost some people in our community; Ben Chorister, Rev. Gordon Easley and Jimmy Wilson. Our heart goes out to their families.
Every time I go to a funeral I realize just how short life is here on earth. I also think about me getting older, which I am but remember we all are.
March 31, 2007 we held a pie auction at the community building for the Mountainburg FFA Alumni. The alumni supports the Mountainburg on some of their endeavors. We had a blast with the FFA members and enjoyed some good eating. Some of the FFA students told the crowd on hand about what they were doing. Great job to our Agri Instructor Mr. Hall.
On May 12 2007 we are having an appreciation dinner for our volunteer firemen and their families. This will be only for those folks. It is just a small way to say thank you.
Well neighbors as you can see we are having lots of events and we would like for you to be involved.
