Rocky Top 4-H Club News

In November members of the Rocky Top 4-H Club held an Appreciation Dinner for the Mountainburg Fire Department, area volunteer fire fighters and first responders.  They served a brisket dinner and had door prizes.  Afterwards the fire department gave the kids a tour of the firehouse and fire trucks and their equipment.
    In December several members went to the Alma Rehab Health Care and decorated the bedroom doors for Christmas.  We also went to the Dollar General in Alma and shopped for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and afterwards went for a club pizza party. 

    At our December 4-H meeting we had our Club Christmas Party and swore in the new 4-H officers for the 2010 year.  The new officers are:  President, Lillian Beasley; Vice-President, Alexander Balandran; Secretary, Samantha Riggs; Treasury, Dalton Hall; Photographer, Rylli Hammond; Recreational Leaders, Dillon Hall and Garret Henry; Song Leader, Annie Beasley; Reporter, Shai Wilkinson. 

    In January we had several members turn in their Record Book Journals and the Cloverbuds are due on February 3rd along with the Club’s Community book, Promotional Book and Club Book.  The Community and Promotional Books are sent off to be judged.  Our Club won the 2009 canned Food Drive.  We have started off our new 4-H year and plan on having a lot of fun and learn a lot.

ROCKY TOP 4-H CLUB NEWS

We have members Lillian, Madelyn, Annie Beasley & Weston Bull who went to Little Rock to compete with their poultry in a Spring Show. They had to have their chickens in place Friday evening and were being judged today and they should be home tonight. So the next newsletter I will have their results for you.

Our club once again for about 10 years now have been active in the American Cancer Society’s "Relay For Life". I got involved in it then when my dad had cancer. He was never able to go and participate in the Survivors Walk because he was too weak. I encourage everyone who has never been and participated to make it at least to it one time. The best time would be to be there at 9:00 p.m. At that time all the lights are turned off. The Luminary sacks are lined around both sides of the track and they spell HOPE up in the stands. But at that time everyone meets in the middle of the track and all the names are read that are in "Honor" or in "Memory". After the reading everyone participates in a silent walk in memory of all the people whose names are on the sacks. I have several of my family with sacks, I saw neighbors names people I didn't even know who has had cancer but have Luminary sacks in Honor of them. Please, if you get a chance go at least one time. I promise you will be touched and will cry a little.

If you have any one you want to buy a Luminary sack in "Honor" or in "Memory" please call me. They cost $5.00 a sack. Our club is also selling chances on baskets that will be given away that night. They cost $1.00 apiece or 6 for $5.00. A few of the baskets we have ready now are: A man's fishing basket, a women's gardening basket, we have a box of 8 yard lights. So call me and we can fix you up or call one of our 4-H kids. All the money we make on the baskets goes to the American Cancer Society.

On Sunday we are having our Club Achievement Banquet where we reward the kids for all their hard work. Luann Wise

ROCKY TOP 4-H NEWS

Since our last community letter we had Miranda Creel, Cody Wise, Will Deputy and Dalton Hall and Lillian Beasley Record Book Journals go on for District Judging. We just had one win in District and it was Cody Wise, he was also a State Record Book Journal Finalist and had to go to Ferndale at the V.A. Vines 4-H Center for an Interview.
We had Lillian, Madelyn & Annie Clare Beasley go to the Spring District show at Fayetteville. They won several blue ribbons and they also are going on to the Spring Show at the State Fair in Little Rock. Lillian Beasley is competing in the District BB-Que contest.

We had several attend the County 4-H Achievement Banquet for the kids who turned in Record Book Journals. Attending were: Dillon & Dalton Hall, Lillian, Madelyn & Annie Claire Beasley, Miranda Creel, Cody Wise and Samantha Riggs. Not attending was Will Deputy, Lillian Beasley won the County Champion Award. Our
4-H Club won County Honor Club, County Champion Award, Promotional Award and first
in the Community Award.

Our club sponsored the Community Easter Egg Hunt. We didn't have a whole lot of kids show up but a lot of the other big Egg hunts were going on. The ones who came got plenty of eggs and candy. We performed Egg Magic and Egg Facts and handed out coloring sheets and had several prizes for the kids available.. A big Thank You to Ms Jeanette Gibbs for coming and assisting us and Thank You to all the TLC Ladies who donated eggs for us.

At our club meeting April 26th, the kids planted a tree for Arbor Day but in Honor of Mr. Terry Bassham who helped make it possible for us to have our Fire Department. 4-H members who assisted in planting the tree was: Alex Balandran, Dalton & Dillon Hall, Lillian, Madelyn & Annie Claire Beasley, Seren Deputy, Rylli Hammond, Kristy Mann, Weston Bull, Rose Rippee, Shylo & Triston Hamby, Samantha Riggs, Anisha & Dakota Reeves.

Rocky Top 4-H Club News

In November the Club went to the Dollar General Store in Alma and shopped for items needed for Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

In November & first part of December we participated in a Crawford County 4-H Can Good Drive and sad to say our club was about the only club who participated and therefore won the contest. All the can goods went to the Out Reach in Alma.

At the end of December a lot of us went to the Alma Rehab and decorated the bedroom doors for the residents. The kids enjoyed doing it and socializing with the residents while doing it. We have been asked to decorate them for Valentines and Easter and again all through the year for the Holidays and seasons. We received a real nice Thank You letter from them.

December 22nd the kids participated in the Donor Appreciation where the kids make goody bags and deliver them to the people who contribute to the 4-H Foundation.

In December some of us made/served dinner to the residents of the Mountainburg Savannah Park Apartments.

January 6th, all 4-H Record Book Journals and club books had to be turned in for competition. Have not received the County results yet but when I do, I will let you know how the kids placed and how our club books placed.

We are gearing up for a lot busier 4-H Year and a lot of fun events. We will be having a club Achievement Banquet and would like everyone to come and share the kids awards and see first hand some of the many different things they participate in.

Rocky Top 4-H Club News

The Rocky Top 4-H Club held their Community Halloween Party on Oct. 31st. We had about 20 all together including parents. Which was o.k. considering it was right after school and a football game night. But next year be prepared for a real good fun time. The planning for it is already on the go and it promises to be a good time. So don't forget about us next year. It will be held the Saturday before Halloween and during the day like it was before. But Thank You to everyone who came and helped and provided candy.

ROCKY TOP 4-H CLUB NEWS

Well we survived another successful year at the Crawford County Fair. We had 16 members make the Junior Livestock Sale. They were Alexander Balandran, Seren & Will Deputy, Cody Wise, Miranda Creel & Samantha Riggs from our Community. We had Dillon & Dalton Hall, Lindsey & Madison Shepherd, Allison Harrison, Kenzie Watson, Rylli Hammond, Lillian & Madelyn & Annie Claire Beasley.
Lillian Beasley & Seren Deputy competed in the Junior Miss Crawford County Fair Pageant and Annie Claire Beasley competed in the Princess Pageant at the Crawford County Fair with Annie Beasley being the first runner up.

Eleven members compete in the 4-H Poultry Chain. They were Annie, Madelyn & Lillian Beasley, Will Deputy, Rose Rippee, Dalton & Dillon Hall, Rylli Hammond & Alexander Balandran and Kenzie Watson with the Champion Pen.

Lillian, Madelyn & Annie Beasley competed also with Market Lambs.

Competing with Market Goats were: Allison Harrison, Rylli Hammond, Cody Wise with the Reserve Champion and Dalton Hall with the Grand Champion. Madison & Lindsey Shepherd, Seren Deputy and Alexander Balandran, Dillon Hall.

In the Breeding Meat Goats class we had Alexander Balandran, Cody Wise, Seren & Will Deputy. They all had some Reserve & Champions.

Shylo & Triston Hamby competed with their rabbits.

Cody Wise & Bri Ellen Millsap competed at the Horse show right before the Fair. Cody Wise also competed at the 2008 Mulberry Mule Days.

We had 4-H members compete in Photography and crafts, Jr. foods, Jr. Canning, Horticulture.

Our club had a 4-H Float promoting Arkansas 4-H Centennial. We had a Club Educational Booth and won first place with it.

At the AR/Okla State Fair we had Rylli Hammond, Cody Wise, Alexander Balandran & Lillian Beasley compete with their 4-H Poultry Chain. Lillian Beasley competed in the Market Lamb class & Dalton Hall competed with his Market Hog and received "Super Showmanship". Lillian, Madelyn & Annie Claire Beasley also competed with their other Poultry and won several Reserve Championship-all 3 of them!

We had Dalton Hall go on to the Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock and placed very high with his Market Goat and also placed 4th place in his age group out of 17 in the Showmanship class.

At our last meeting new Officers were elected for the 2008-2009 year, they are: President-Lillian Beasley; V-President Alexander Balandran; Recreational Leader- Dalton Hall; Samantha Riggs as Secretary, Cody Wise as Reporter; Madelyn Beasley as our Photographer and Miranda Creel as our Treasurer.

We will be very busy the next few months. We are having our Annual Halloween Community Party. We will be shopping for toys to take to Children's Hospital, planning our Club Christmas Party, and preparing our Record Book Journals that are due in January. We will have a very active & busy 2009.

We are having our 4-H Club Achievement Banquet. We reward the kids for all their hard work with some getting certain rewards. We would like to have as many of you come and sit in and help us celebrate their hard work and speak to the kids.

October is also our 4-H Promotional month. Members have worn their club t-shirts and given a talk to their classes at School. The club’s Educational Booth is traveling to different businesses all month. We have handed out bookmarks, pamphlets and spreading the word!!

In 4-H news, Lillian Beasley won the coveted Spirit award in each of the two summer camps she attended. Each camp had over 200 kids in attendance. Congratulations Lillian!

Cody Wise attended a 3-day camp in Fayetteville placing 3 times in the top 10. He also made a trip to Washington, DC. Congratulations Cody!

Miranda Creel also attended the same camp. She has volunteered at the Senior Inn during summer vacation. Thanks for your service, Miranda!

All the 4-H kids are gearing up for the County Fair that starts September 8th by getting their animals groomed and ready to show, gather canned items and finishing craft projects. You can do the same and make some money at the same time. Be sure to attend at least once and see what the Fair has to offer.

ROCKY TOP 4-H CLUB

Members of the Rocky Top 4-H Club have been busy. Most everybody has turned in their record books and have been Judged. We have several members who have joined a Livestock Judging Team started by Nickie Taul, our 4-H Agent. They have been to two Judging Competitions. The last one was in Fayetteville at the Washington County Fair grounds. Our club won first in the 4-H teams. The members from our club are Miranda Creel, Cody Wise and Lillian Beasley and Dalton Hall.

At our April meeting we had Jay Schneider from Lake Fort Smith State Park come and he presented us with a slide show of the new park. They have several programs going on and tours available. So if you get a chance go to the new park and enjoy yourself. Its suppose to be up and going for Memorial weekend.

We had several members participate in our County O'Rama. Members participating were: Cody Wise, Annie and Maddie and Lillian Beasley, Dillon and Dalton Hall, Miranda Creel and Samantha Riggs, Rylli Hammond. They competed in bb-gun, bicycle, seed I.D., Livestock skills, bait casting. public speaking, modeling, fashion revue and vocal.

ROCKY TOP 4-H CLUB

Rocky Top 4-H Club has had a busy past year and we are up and running with a busy 2008. This year is a special time for 4-H. This year we are celebrating something special. It is the Arkansas 4-H Centennial 1908-2008 "Honoring the Past - Celebrating the Future". So we will be out all year promoting 4-H. And we are still looking for anyone who was a 4-H member or was a 4-H Volunteer Leader to please contact me. So far I have just had Jeanette Gibbs call me. We would love to have you come as a guest speaker to one of our 4-H meetings and share some of your experiences with us that you had in 4-H. My phone number is 217-0280.

Our Beginner and Intermediate and Advanced 4-H Members have turned in their 4-H Record Journals for the past year. Members who has turned in a Record Book Journal were: Madison Shepherd, Dalton Hall, Cody Wise, Jerrie & Jeannie Bryant, Miranda Creel, Will & Seren Deputy and Lillian Beasley and Bri-Ellen Millsap. Members who won in the County level with their Record Book Journals were: Lillian Beasley, Will & Seren Deputy, Jerrie & Jennie Bryant, Cody Wise and Dalton Hall. These are going on for District and possibly State Competition. These Record Book Journals are very important for these kids. They are eligible to possibly win a Scholarship and these Journals are great for them to use as Resume's as they get older.

Our Cloverbuds are working on their Record Book Journals and are turning them in February to be judged.

At our last meeting the kids participated in fun activities that helped them learn the importance of working together as a team by doing some "Team Skills".

We have several of our kids who have been practicing Animal Judging and Livestock Skills and will be going to Fayettville Jan. 26th to the Pauline Whitaker Arena to compete up there. Members going are Seren & Will Deputy, Cody Wise, Jennie & Jerrie Bryant and Beth Rippee. Will get back with you and let you know how they did and who our Cloverbuds are that turned in Record Book Journals.

Rocky Top 4-H News

The Rocky Top 4-H Club has been busy.

Since the last news we have had several compete at the Regional O'Rama. Cody Wise competed in Bait casting, Daniel Keeton competed in Speech, and won 1st place. Miranda Creel and Jennie Bryant competed in Fashion Review, with Jennie receiving a fourth. Jerrie Bryant & Lillian Beasley competed in seed I.D. and Dalton Hall competed in Speech.

We had members compete in the State O'Rama which is a 3 day event. Daniel Keeton competed in Speech and won first place, Cody Wise competed in the Livestock Skills, Jerrie Bryant competed in the "First Job" and Jennie Bryant competed in Photography.
One of their days they did Community work, one day they competed in their competitions, and one day they had their banquet and a dance then went to the Jones Center for ice skating.

Our club participated in the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" in June.
This last weekend we had members participate in the "Stuff The Bus" program for School. Members participating were Miranda Creel, Rylli Hammond and Courtney Mills. Part of these supplies will go to the Mountainburg Schools.

Now we are gearing up for our Crawford County Fair. We will have members exhibiting livestock, crafts, foods, canning, etc. We hope to see the people of our Community coming to the fair and helping show their support.

Our son Chay is stationed in Japan in the Marines will be home for two weeks to visit with us. He will be here during our County Fair so he can catch up with the other former 4-Her's and help his brother with his animals.

We are looking for all past members of 4-H clubs. Surely there are some people who have been in 4-H in the past- I am meaning even from 30 or longer years ago up till recently. Rocky Top 4-H Club News

In February, the Rocky Top 4-H Club had adopted the Savannah Park Apartments in Mountainburg. The club members made valentine goodie sacks and delivered to the residents.

In Jan. & February all the members turned in Record Books. We had Cody Wise, Alexander Balandran, and Miranda Creel and Rowdy Nelson (From the Community) and we had Madison Shepherd, Dalton Hall, Jake & Rhiannon Gregory all win Medals for being COUNTY Winners. Also turning in Record Books were: Jacob Scribbner, Elijah Wilson, Jerrie & Jennie Bryant & Jessie Hall, Amanda & Aylissa NELSON (all from the community) & Lindsey Shepherd. Cody Wise was also a District Record Book Winner. They attended the County Achievement Banquet and received their ribbons & medals. Our club won in the County with our Promotional Book and we won Honor Club with our Club book. Our Promotional Book & Community books were sent to State for Judging. We won 3rd in the State with our Promotional Book and we won 1st in the State with our Community Book.

April 7th was our Club Sponsored Community Easter Egg Hunt @ the Community Building from 10:00 a.m. till ?

Our club is getting geared up for the American Cancer Relay. Last year the club raised $792.00 and our goal for this year is $1000.00. We have luminary sacks for sale for $5.00 in Memory or in Honor of. We are taking donations also. We will be having several baskets we are taking donations on to be given away the evening of the Cancer Relay which is June 15th. If you or if you know of someone who is a Survivor or currently taking treatments, please contact me and I will get you a letter inviting you to our Survivor Dinner and to the Survivors Lap at the Cancer Relay.
